TFF #1: Start Now
Hi friend,
Is there a certain project or idea that you just keep putting off?
Is there a new skill you want to learn, but haven’t taken the time to do it?
Are you waiting for the “right time” to tackle that next big challenge?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions…
Buckle up! Because this inaugural edition of The Fearless Five is for you.
1. You’re the captain of your own ship.
We’ve all heard the famous Henry Ford quote:
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
Ultimately, it boils down to a very simple principle:
You’re the captain of your own ship.
Whatever outcome you decide, you can make it happen.
Now don’t get me wrong, the obstacles standing between you and your goal are very real.
But obstacles are made to be overcome.
Did you know that nearly one-third of entrepreneurs have only a high school degree ?
And that only 9% of entrepreneurs have a Bachelor’s degree in business?
Not having a college education. Not having a business degree.
Some would call those obstacles to starting a successful business.
But the numbers prove that you can overcome them.
If you decide that you can.
2. Your past doesn’t dictate your future.
Experience is important, certainly.
But just because you don’t have experience in a certain industry or sector, doesn’t mean you can’t succeed there.
Take Kara Goldin.
She had left her job as VP of Shopping & e-Commerce at AOL to found a flavored water company Hint in 2005.
Here’s the thing: she had zero experience in the flavored water space.
But she didn’t let that stop her.
Now, Hint is valued at $150 million.
It just goes to show you: just because you don’t have experience, doesn’t mean you can’t pull off something big.
If you want to learn more about how she did it, check out the full story on Inc.com.
3. Pivoters-in-chief.
If you’re thinking about making a pivot in your life or career, you’re in good company.
And by that, we mean the two greatest presidents in U.S. history.
After his presidency, George Washington pivoted from commander-in-chief to a whiskey producer.
That’s right. After leaving office, Washington opened a whiskey distillery.
By 1799, it was the largest in the country, producing 11,000 gallons of unaged whiskey.
Not only that, but did you know that, pre-presidency, Abraham Lincoln was an elite fighter?
Indeed, he’s even in the wrestling hall of fame.
Among his roughly 300 contests, he suffered only one loss.
Then he pivoted.
Now, he’s remembered as one of the U.S.’s greatest presidents.
Wherever you are now, that doesn’t define where you’ll be in the future.
So don’t be afraid to make that change.
4. Daily Challenge: Just start.
In each edition of The Fearless Five, I’m going to include a daily challenge to carry you through the week.
Except for this week.
Because it’s the first newsletter, why not start with something a little simpler?
So instead of something to do every day…
...here’s something you have to do just once.
That’s right.
Your challenge: start something new.
That’s it.
It could be to start working on your business plan.
Or writing that book you’ve always wanted to do.
Or pick up Duolingo and start learning French.
It could even be something as simple as posting on LinkedIn for the first time.
It doesn’t matter what the thing is. You just need to do it.
That’s your challenge.
(In case you were wondering, my challenge is: launching this newsletter.)
5. Weekly Resource: Mel Robbins’ “5-Second Rule”
For The Fearless Five’s first ever weekly resource, I’m not asking you to buy anything.
There’s no affiliate links.
No free trials to sign up for.
There’s just this video.
As someone who has struggled with procrastination and lack of motivation my entire life, this one simple brain trick transformed my entire life and work.
No, that’s not an understatement.
Without that trick, I never would have started FEARLESS Content Group. Or this newsletter. Or any of the other projects that I work on each day.
So check it out. I hope it helps you as much as it’s helped me.
And that’s it...for now.
I hope this inaugural edition of The Fearless Five has convinced you to stop procrastinating and just start the thing that you want to.
By the way, if you’re looking for something to share on LinkedIn this week, I’d be stoked if you’d consider sharing this newsletter.
I’m sure there are some people in your network who’d benefit from it.
And if you enjoyed this but aren’t subscribed, why don’t you drop your email below?
That way, The Fearless Five will be waiting for you at the start of every week.
Until next time,
Timothy
